Near Nobel, 1933

“There was beautiful scenery near Parry Sound and I went up there several times to sketch.  On one of my trips I discovered the little village of Nobel.  It was located just north of Parry Sound, and in those days, was as far as one could travel by car.  Nobel, not surprisingly when one considers its name, was the site of both of a munitions plant and a factory for the production of the Orenda, one of the earliest of jet engines.  This is quite ironic in light of the isolation and serenity of the town to the casual observer.”
