| “One of my most pleasurable weekend activities during the period On the Don was painted took the form of sketching forays with my close friend and mentor Franklin Carmichael. The ravine and creek, which form the subject of this watercolour, were located just west of Frank’s home on Cameron Avenue in Willowdale. This particular sketch holds a special place of affection for me in that it was painted with Frank and earned some of the praise with which he was so fair yet so circumspect.” A.J.
