| “The scene depicted in this watercolour never existed in reality, but was a composite of a half a dozen sketches of the village of Rockwood. The terrain in Rockwood is hilly and afforded me the lift and height I required for this painting. As a precursor to the Elora and Salem portfolio, this sketch is a reflection of my predilection for detail and accuracy, as well as my general interest in the villages and towns of Southern Ontario.” A.J.
