“I have always had an affection for the old, country stores. This may well stem from the fact that there were storekeepers both in mine and my wife’s families. These stores were invariably part business and part house and usually boasted a picket fence and a garden. This particular store was located northwest of Toronto and seemed the ideal subject for a watercolour sketch.”
