In The News New World Record for Artwork by A.J. Casson
A new world record for a painting by A.J. Casson was set during the Joyner Spring Auction of Important Canadian Art held on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. This large signature work by the celebrated Group of Seven artist was executed during the late 1930s, a pivotal period for Mr. Casson. As quoted by Joyner Vice-President Rob Cowley “We knew it was a very special work,” said Cowley. “Casson was at the height of his skill and his confidence.” He also said Casson “had family in that area of Ontario,” and was a “master of depicting small town Ontario.” Canadian art critic and historian Paul Duval wrote in 1980 “Casson has recorded small towns in every season, and Street in Glen Williams is unquestionably his key autumn portrait.” |
