Lawren Harris’ Sketch
Sells For $1.67 Million

 


At Heffel’s Fine Art Auction held May 25, 2006 at Vancouver’s Sheraton Wall Centre Hotel, the top three lots sold were all painted by Group of Seven artist Lawren Harris.

Each of the three oil on board images measured 12 x 15 inches, and two of the images exceeded the previous record price of $500,000.00 (hammer) for a Lawren Harris sketch. 

Mount Lefroy sold for $1,677,500.00 (all prices include a 15% Buyer’s Premium).

“It’s one of the most exciting battles for a painting that I’ve ever auctioned off,” stated auctioneer Robert Heffel following the sale.  “$1.67-million is a record for a Group of Seven sketch at auction and it’s a personal high for me too.”

Cathedral Mountain from Yoho Valley, Mountain sketch went for $747,500.00 and Morin Island, Eclipse Sound, North Baffin Island went for $397,500.00
